Achievement Objectives
We will try to use and celebrate the Cook Islands language in the classroom through learning
- to introduce themselves using the Cook Islands language
- of the basic Cook Islands sayings
- of Cook Island numbers
- of days of the week and months

 Here we made Tivaevae using Tesselations in Maths. We then have tried to complete our Reading Tivaevae (Quilt) that has own personalities in them.

POLYFEST 2019 - Whakapono 20 week 6

March 15 2019 was a day they had all been waiting for... the unknown as none of the children had ever been really, as they were either too young or their families said no we are no going to polyfest... But this year and this week and this Day their little dreams came true.  They were so excited to see some cultural stages and to be honest they said they wanted to get some yummy food. Whakapono 20 had some awesome helpers, Mrs Losaline Tausala, Miss Manuel our Teacher support and also Mrs Rebecca Rigamoto, without their support we would not be able to do any of these out of class learning experiences. We went to the Samoan stage as Manurewa High which are part of our COL area performed and for my part the teacher, my niece who is the Head Girl performed as the 'Taupou'... The children were very excited knowing that hard work strives to becoming either 'head person' or becoming a 'Prefect' of a desired school they may choose. We then went to watch Mrs

SWIMMING LESSONS WHAKAPONO TERM 1

Yes we have started... We were given the ODD weeks so we missed week 1. This week however is week 3. We were able to use the pool, alas our first lesson did not go ahead as most our children forgot their swimwear at home.  Day 2 was better with most our children remembering, our lessons went ahead.  From reading our PRIDE rules of the pool, walking in safely into the swimming area and the pool our lesson was fabulously awesome!! Lesson included sitting on the floor Swimming with the board while kicking, then breast stroke with the boards They then swam without the boards doing the breast stroke They then did floating on their backs kicking, then with arms and kicking. The children were happy the day was beautiful to have their swimming lesson. Thank you for visiting our blog.

Whetū and Nick: The Quest for the Map, the Kite and the Sacred Maunga  In line with the 250th year commemorating of the arrival of James Cook and the Endeavour's 1769 voyage to Aotearoa New Zealand. ​ 250 Years ago, in 1769, James Cook sailed the HMS Endeavour, navigating and drawing an extraordinary map of New Zealand, a map so accurate that it is still cherished today. But what if this map was blown away by the mischievous Māori god of weather  Tāwhiri-rangi? Whetū & Nick  tells an original tale of a young Māori girl and a British orphan cabin boy who set out in search of Cook’s map, a flying kite and the sacred  maunga  (mountain) .  Along the way they discover their cultural differences and similarities, their people’s voyages and their shared love of Aotearoa.  Their young lives will take a momentous turn as they go through the forest and find themselves atop the sacred  maunga .
