POLYFEST 2019 - Whakapono 20 week 6

March 15 2019 was a day they had all been waiting for... the unknown as none of the children had ever been really, as they were either too young or their families said no we are no going to polyfest...
But this year and this week and this Day their little dreams came true. 
They were so excited to see some cultural stages and to be honest they said they wanted to get some yummy food.
Whakapono 20 had some awesome helpers, Mrs Losaline Tausala, Miss Manuel our Teacher support and also Mrs Rebecca Rigamoto, without their support we would not be able to do any of these out of class learning experiences.
We went to the Samoan stage as Manurewa High which are part of our COL area performed and for my part the teacher, my niece who is the Head Girl performed as the 'Taupou'... The children were very excited knowing that hard work strives to becoming either 'head person' or becoming a 'Prefect' of a desired school they may choose.
We then went to watch Mrs Sheelagh Cooper-Viliau perform with the group she had help mentor through the Polyfest; OTAHUHU COLLEGE. Such a great experience for our children to see our own teacher up there playing the guitar for the Niuean group.
Later we then walked around getting free stuff from tents that were promoting either 'Education' or 'Housing' to 'food and culture'.
Beautiful weather and cultural music was what we gained today as a bonus.

These two boys are my friends sons, Mary Samasoni. I was a teacher aide at Robertson Road School and these boys were in the classes I was supporting before I left, and studying as a Uni Student studying Education...

SWIMMING LESSONS WHAKAPONO TERM 1

Yes we have started... We were given the ODD weeks so we missed week 1. This week however is week 3. We were able to use the pool, alas our first lesson did not go ahead as most our children forgot their swimwear at home.  Day 2 was better with most our children remembering, our lessons went ahead.  From reading our PRIDE rules of the pool, walking in safely into the swimming area and the pool our lesson was fabulously awesome!! Lesson included sitting on the floor Swimming with the board while kicking, then breast stroke with the boards They then swam without the boards doing the breast stroke They then did floating on their backs kicking, then with arms and kicking. The children were happy the day was beautiful to have their swimming lesson. Thank you for visiting our blog.

TIDY KIWI WINNERS

This week at Team assembly Whakapono 20 were chosen for "TIDY KIWI" clean clas again, and  "Most colourful Learning environment. The children were very happy as they have learnt to clean as we go when learning, and also having completed work which they are proud of.  Wendy Cochrane won 'Caught being good' this week as she had shown great sharing and caring towards her peers. Lavinia and Paige won Merit awards for their PRIDE behaviour.  Proud of being "winners" Checking each others certificates out Whakapono 20 have promised to continue their great behaviour through using their PRIDE all the time to win another certificate.                       Thank you for viewing our BLOG
