WEEK 7 - WHAKAPONO 20

This is what we learnt from Fergie & Keira (DOGS) how to be safe around them.

  • The 3 golden rules around dogs
    • Ask the dog owner if you may pat the dog. (If the say no, say thank you as their reason may be that the dog may bite and they are trying to stay safe.
  • How do we act or pat a dog?
Pat them by their back away from their faces
  • If a big dog came forward and starting running towards you and your dog -  keep your arms close to your bodies, look at your feet and stay quiet (don't run away)
  • Getting up close and personal to the dogs
    • Asking permission
    • Thumbs up- it's ok
    • Thumbs down - it's not ok
    • Thumbs sidewards - maybe
Dog behaviours - recognising and asking the owner it should be fine
  • Do we put our noses up again the fence?

Not a safe choice to do that..
